A scholarly journal is one that is written for practioners in a certain field and which often uses research to back up what is said within the article. Often the articles are "peer-reviewed" (the article is sent out to be evaluated by a panel of experts in the field before publication)
You can specify a scholarly or peer-reviewed journal when you search for information in an electronic database.
