Library Marketing & Outreach Plan

Statement of Purpose: The purpose of the library's marketing and outreach is to implement strategic marketing, outreach and event services that orient students, faculty and various library users to library services, library collections and student support materials. The library's main marketing goal is to support students in finding and utilizing both print and digital resources that enhance their academic knowledge base, increase their awareness of the world, and nurtures their professional development.  The library's services, skilled staff and research instruction is given in various formats to reach students whether they are at home, on campus, in transit or away. The library strives to stay connected with its users in person, through text, chat, social media, traditional phone calls and emails.

Goals:

The library's marketing and outreach goals are:

  • to increase student awareness of library collections by digital access
  • to promote the scheduling of one-on-one research sessions with librarians
  • to encourage students to visit the our weekly IT Station for mobile hardware and software services
  • to provide mobile access to basic library information for students in transit
  • to highlight student access to online library and academic materials through the library's new computer and software spaces
  • to promote library spaces for student study groups, individual study, and multimedia project creation.

Marketing Topics:

  1. August/September/October will focus on introducing library liaisons and library services.
  2. September marketing will focus on our library services. Events include: Welcome Back Week, Non-Traditional Day, Banned Books Week & Constitution Day.
  3. October marketing will focus on creating and scheduling library blog posts that focus on library events and library collaborations on campus.
  4. November/December marketing will focus on library services such as: study room reservations, Mac Station,  library literacy instruction, and use of the mobile classroom. Events: Stress Free Zone for Finals Week.
  5. The Spring semester (January through May) will focus on marketing events such as: Writers@Work, Meacham's Workshop Series, International Day, National Library Week (Edible Book Festival), Poetry Month, Women's History Month, Black History Month and other spring programs. 
  6. The Summer semester will consist of  marketing library services and the promotion of student success with literary instruction. Summer will also be the time to revise and prepare library marketing materials for faculty and students, both in print and .pdf formats. This will be the time for creating a core collection of brochures, fliers, bookmarks and various handouts for orientation sessions. Library Trading Cards will be revised as needed based on changes in staff.

Marketing Team:

The marketing staff are briefed on the upcoming tasks and goals for the year on a routine bases through Marketing & Social Media Team meetings. These tasks are assigned and can be viewed on the marketing calendar and on the library marketing team website pages. The calendar illustrates the monthly marketing promotions performed by each library marketing team member. Tasks may be daily, weekly or by the month. Marketing and Social Media meetings take place as needed with yearly review planning taking place weekly in June & January.

Library Liaison Marketing:

  • Liaison Letters to Liaison Areas (Send second week of classes on T, W or TH)
  • Liaison library cards are shared during department/division meetings at the beginning of the Fall semester.
  • Department Meeting Attendance with 5-10 Minute Library Update

Campus Collaborations:

  • Student Affairs and Student Support Services
  • Humanities Department: Information Literacy Instruction and Co-sponsor on Humanities Events
  • Campus Tour and Event Participation
  • New Student Orientations

Library Technology Outreach:

  • Our library computers include campus software that supports digital studies. Computer Majors in our IT Program come to the library every Tuesday at posted times to provide free assistance and repair for laptops, tablets, cell phones, etc. All of our library staff and student assistants maintain current technology experience to assist students with campus related technology and software as it presents itself in navigating online coursework and library resources..
  • As a college student, students have access to: Learning Express test prep materials, Career Transitions job search resources, Mango-foreign language instruction, EBSCOhost eBooks, and Films on Demand videos and films.

Most TBR libraries provide:

  • Multimedia study rooms for group collaboration. Reservations accepted.
  • A computer area with computers. Both PC and Mac computers available.
  • MAC and PC Adobe Creative Suite software
  • A Print Center with networked printing, copiers, scanners and faxing.
  • Student WiFi.
  • Electric outlets for students’ laptops and tablets.

Library Campus Outreach may include:

  • Early College and High School Information Literacy Instruction, school visits and orientations.
  • Encouraged access to Text/Chat with librarians for research and library catalog assistance.
  • Students may search campus FAQ or ask a campus related question through the library’s website using LibAnswers if libraries have a contract with Springshare.

Marketing Venues may include:

  • Social media (Facebook, Twitter, library blog and LibAnswers)
  • Websites: library website, Assignment and Subject Guides & Student Technology Lifeline, NEW Book Blog (LibGuide)

Marketing Media may include:

  • Library social media
  • Campus announcements
  • Campus social media
  • Campus marketing
  • Signage

Social Media Planning - June & December (weekly) 

  • Library blog- features posts on: rotating topics that focus on: collections/new items, librarian activities/profiles, library/campus events, and research lessons/tips.
  • Facebook- features posts on: changes in library hours, library calendar, monthly themes, events/reminders, databases, assignment and subject guides.
  • Library Twitter- features library interests, professional and organizational networking, library events and hours of operation.
  • LibAnswers- features library, technology and campus FAQ
  • Image Manager (LibGuides) and Marketing Group OneDrive - holds library stock photos for marketing, database promotional logos, library logos and reference marketing materials.
