North Parkway Middle School Research Guide: Doing Research

Using Search Terms

Once you’ve chosen a research topic, you need to start searching for information.   Before you start looking up things, you should write down a list of the key terms (and synonyms) , ideas, events, people, etc. related to your topic.

This is because each of your sources that you use may utilize different terminology.

For example, say you were looking for information on girls who play video games.   What are the key terms involved?

What would be synonyms for girls?   Video games?
