General Information

The JSCC Library has a wealth of resources available for students who are studying abroad through TnCIS. This guide has been designed to help you access information relevant to your trip. The majority of resources listed are electronic; however, I have listed print books when available. If you have difficulty accessing any of the resources, please contact me.

This listing of the study abroad programs offered by TnCIS provides details about each country and its corresponding program. Please note that not all programs listed are open to JSCC students.

JSCC Study Abroad Courses 2024
This is a list of courses offered for JSCC students in the study abroad program in 2024. Each course is listed with its specific country.

Tennessee Consortium for International Studies (TnCIS)
TnCIS represents nineteen colleges and universities devoted to making international education and cultural understanding a central goal of higher education throughout the state of Tennessee.
Global Learning and International Education - JSCC
This is the JSCC page for study abroad, including information about applying for the Jackson State International Ambassador Scholarship.
TSA Travel Information
Includes information on what you can and cannot bring on your flight, how to prepare for your trip, and frequently asked questions.
U.S. Passport Information
Helpful information from the U.S. Department of State - Bureau of Consular Affairs.
Passport Forms Online
This site from the U.S. Department of State provides passport application forms online, saving you a trip to the post office.
Passport Appointment Scheduler
This site can be used to make your passport appointment at the post office. The post office also does passport photos for an additional $15. Be sure to select "new passport with photo services" if you want that option.
Smart Traveler Enrollment Program
The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service to allow U.S. citizens and nationals traveling and living abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
AtoZ World Culture
Learn all about your chosen destination from this online database of information about the culture, language, history, food, religion, and much more, for 175 countries.
Transparent Language Online
Transparent Language Online has a wide variety of foreign languages available. It is a great resource for learning a foreign language.

Scholarship Opportunities

JSCC International Ambassador Scholarship

Deadline: Completed applications must be submitted by January 22, 2024.

Applicants must be:

Currently enrolled at JSCC
In good academic standing
Have a minimum 2.0 G.P.A.
Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of travel
Must complete 12 college level credit hours prior to travel
Must obtain a valid passport prior to travel

A complete application for this scholarship will include:

Application cover letter providing information about yourself.
Typed 500-word essay addressing the question: Why I want to study abroad. Be sure to explain what you hope to learn and how you believe this experience will enhance your education.
Two letters of support; one must be from a JSCC faculty member.
Interview with the Global Learning Coordinator and/or International Education Committee (to be scheduled).
