Beginning Research and Finding Resources in the JSCC Library -- General Guide: Creating Works Cited Pages

This guide is designed to assist students in performing basic research using JSCC Library resources and online resources

Citations are the author-title-source information that researchers need to keep track of when they are gathering their research articles, books, reference books, and other research materials.  This information, the citation information, is necessary for writing a Works Cited page (a bibliography) for an essay, a term paper, an presentation, and for other class work.

Researchers write their works cited pages according to the style that they - or their instructors or publishers -- want them to use.  Three of the most used styles are:  MLA; Turabian; and, APA.  Often, instructors will want their students to use the APA style for technical or scientific reports and papers, such as for health science topics.

Assistance for creating Works Cited documents is available from the JSCC Library website.

Look at the link on the JSCC Library website at the top of the homepage, titled:  Student Support.  Click on this link, and then into the link titled, "Research & Writing Help."   The second area on this page is a "Citation & Style" section, which includes JSCC Library created PDF guides to citing resources:

JSCC MLA Handout  (PDF)

JSCC APA Handout (PDF)

JSCC Chicago/Turabian Handout

These guides provide examples of ways to cite various types of resources, according to the rules of the various citation styles.  Use the guides as a brief reference for creating citations.

If more information is needed concerning how to cite a particular resource, ask the subject class instructor for assistance -- the instructor who made the assignment which requires a works cited page.
