The Process Essay


For your second major essay, you will be writing a research paper of 5-7 pages on the following topic:

Please select a process related to your chosen major field of study or career pathway. You may write on any topic you choose except the educational or professional steps involved in obtaining a specific goal, such as How to become a registered nurse?

The final draft of the essay will be due before midnight on the evening of Wednesday, November 30.

For this essay, you will receive a letter grade with +/-. This assignment is worth 30% of your final course grade.

Writing Center Bonus: If you utilize the writing center in the process of writing this essay, you will receive a bonus of no less than half a letter grade on your grade for this assignment.



  1. A one sentence statement of your topic will be due before midnight on the evening of Sunday, October 30.
  2. You must use at least six outside sources for your paper. These sources must be academic. You may NOT utilize internet sources from .com or .net domains.
  3. You must utilize proper MLA in text/parenthetical citation each time you quote, paraphrase, or summarize material from your sources. You should review the college’s policy on academic honesty found on the course syllabus to familiarize yourself with the penalties for plagiarism.
  4. You must include a correctly formatted Works Cited page at the end of your essay listing each of the six sources you have used. A draft of your Works Cited page will be due before midnight on the evening of Sunday, November 13.
