Study Abroad Information

This resource is designed for students participating in the TnCIS Study Abroad program through JSCC.

General Information

The JSCC Library has a wealth of resources available for students who are studying abroad through TnCIS. This guide has been designed to help you access information relevant to your trip. The majority of resources listed are electronic; however, I have listed print books when available. If you have difficulty accessing any of the resources, please contact me.

Scholarship Opportunities

JSCC International Ambassador Scholarship:

Applicants must be:

  • Currently enrolled at JSCC
  • Active members in a JSCC club such as Multicultural Student Association (MSA) or Spanish Club
  • In good academic standing
  • Have a minimum 2.0 G.P.A.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of travel
  • Must complete 12 college level credit hours prior to travel
  • Must obtain a valid passport prior to travel

A complete application for this scholarship will include:

  • Application cover letter
  • Typed 500 word essay addressing the topic: Why I want to study abroad.
  • Two letters of support, one from a JSCC faculty member
  • Interview with the International Activities Coordinator and/or International Education Committee

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship:

Application open: Mid-January 2021

Deadline: March 2021

Notification: End of April 2021

MSA Study Abroad Scholarship: Active members of MSA at JSCC

Scholarships are based off participation points gained by being an active member during the Fall and Spring semesters before your study abroad trip. Scholarships are given out during the JSCC awards ceremony in the spring semester.

TnCIS 2021 Student Travel Grant:

This program will award travel grants of approximately $1800 - $2100. The grant amount will be applied toward the program fee payment. These travel grants are funded through a TBR SERS grant. 

Student minimum eligibility:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a TBR community college at the time of application and maintain enrollment through the completion of the TnCIS study abroad program   
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 college-level credit hours by the end of the 2020 fall semester
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of a 2.0 or higher at the end of the 2020 fall semester
  • Must currently be receiving a Pell grant
  • Must be a first-time study abroad student
