Zoom Etiquette

Basic Guidelines

  • Turn on your camera, so your instructor can see you.
    • Dress appropriately.
    • Use a virtual background if you are uncomfortable sharing
your personal environment. (Instructions provided in the
Student Hub on the Zoom tab).

  • Mute your microphone.
    • Unmute your microphone to participate in discussions and ask
      questions.
    • Use the chat feature if you do not have a working microphone.
    • If another student is speaking, and you would like to add a comment,
please use the “raise your hand” feature in Zoom.

  • Use your First and Last name to login to the Zoom meeting. This allows
your instructor to easily identify you and take attendance.

  • Pay attention! Maintain eye contact with the speaker on the screen.

  • Be on time to class. Communicate with your instructor if you will be late to
join the Zoom meeting, or if you lose connection during the meeting.

Your Environment

  • Attend your Zoom class sessions in a quiet area. Ensure your area is free
    from background noise and distractions.

  • Sit in a well-lit room or position yourself facing a light source. Don’t sit
with a light source (window) behind you, because you essentially become
    a silhouette.

  • Prepare your materials in advance. Log into your eLearn course, have your
textbook readily available, and ensure you have paper and pencil/pen to
    take notes.

  • Turn off/silence your cell phone. Ensure your area is free from distractions
and that you are not disturbing other students.
